Library Materials
Membership
Library cards are free to all residents of Allegheny county and may be used to borrow materials from all libraries in Allegheny County. To obtain a card, fill out an application, showing proof of name and current residence. Acceptable proof is a PA driver's license, PA state id, or Social Security card.
Availability of Items
If you do not see the items that you want, anyone with a valid library card may reserve the items from another county library. The "borrowed" items will be delivered to our location and our staff will contact you upon the arrival. If the item is not owned by any library in Allegheny County, the library may still be able to locate a copy for you through Interlibrary Loan. A statewide search will usually result in the book being found and sent to us upon your request. Only occasionally will the owning library attach fees to the borrowing of an item.
Loan Periods
The majority of materials circulate for 21 days. Videos, magazines, and new fiction circulate for 7 days.
Renewals
There is a two renewal limit per item for 21-day materials, unless the item has been requested by another patron.
Overdue Fees
Dormont Public Library fines are $.10 per day per item. There are additional charges for damaged, and/or lost items. The maximum will not exceed the cost of the item plus a processing fee. Please note that items requested from another library are subject to the fines of that library.
Catalog Access
The catalog is a public-access catalog available through any of the library workstations or from any computer with internet access. It may be accessed from our Homepage, which is displayed on all library computers. Searches may be done using title, author, or keyword. The catalog includes all items held by Allegheny County libraries. Materials in the Dormont Public Library are clearly designated 'Dormont Public Library'.
